Single Mom Globe Trotter

Venice Italy #SingleMomGlobeTrotter

I’ve had a life long dream to travel the globe. But more specifically… to go to Italy.

If you’re a longtime reader of this blog, or a personal friend of mine, then you already know this. It’s been my obsession since I was eighteen years old. That’s when I fell in love with it for the very first time, in the film Only You with Robert Downey Jr. I’d just graduated high school and when the footage of Venice came on the big screen I was transfixed. The footage of Tuscany left me with lifelong fantasies of getting lost in a tiny janky car roaming around the Tuscan villages, drinking wine from a bottle. And the scenes of the Amalfi Coast… we’ll… I have no words to do them the justice they deserve.

41 Is NOT The New 21

41 is not the new 21

5 reason’s why I’d rather be 41 than 21!

Today I turned 41. Kinda hard to believe actually. I’m not exactly sure where the time has gone. Sometimes I feel like I woke up one day and my twenties and thirties where over, without any warning. I remember being in my twenties thinking that women in their forties where soooooooo old. Like end of life old! I thought they looked ancient and acted even older.

Yet here I am.41 is NOT the new 21

On most days I don’t feel “old.” Or not as old as I thought those women seemed anyway. So it got me thinking; is our perception of age really changing? People say that your forties are the new twenties and I’d have to disagree. Maybe they are the new thirties, but my God! Am I happy I’m not still in my twenties!

So I thought I’d share five major lessons that my twenties, thirties and forties have taught me.

Single Mom Road Trip Survival Guide

I grew up going on long road trips, when my family would drive from Oregon to California to visit relatives or friends several times a year. Back then we’d all pile into an old beat-up station wagon, pack some sandwiches and pray we wouldn’t end-up broken down on the side of the freeway (which we almost always did).

So when I became a parent it seemed logical that driving would be the way to go if I needed to take my family less than a thousand miles. I made a few such trips back when I was married with one child, but when I became a single mom with three kids… that’s when it became interesting!

Travel matters to me, a lot. I think as parents, one of the most important things we can do for our kids is show them the world, even if it’s just a few hundred miles from home. And so I committed to sharing this experience with my children from the very start of this single parent journey. Over the past eight years we’ve made an annual road trip as part of our summer vacation, and I’ve learned a few tips that might help you make traveling with your kids a little less scary and hopefully fun!

Mentors Changed My Life

mentors changed my life

My copy of #HustleBelieveReceive signed by people featured in it and my mentors.

My mentors have changed my life.

It’s because of their willingness to have truthful, tough love, heart to heart talks with me that I’ve been able to get past my hang-ups and elevate to the next level. Whenever I’ve felt stuck I’ve turned to them and they have never let me down.
Today I was lucky to have lunch with one of my mentors who four years ago told me to get off my ass and write my book already. He told me to get over my “I’m not a writer” hang-up and just WRITE IT! He actually told me then that he’d not talk to me until I came with a copy of my finished manuscript, and he gave me a deadline. I met that challenge and handed him a bound copy of my first book attempt four years ago.

6 Steps to Getting Out of a Funk

This is a follow-up to my last post: Postpartum of a Dream.  Writing that post helped me to process so much of what I’d been avoiding for the past year, and helped start my journey back to where I need to be. I received a ton of messages, and comments on Facebook from people showing support, and I’m so grateful for all the love. I hope it also opened the discussion about what you might feel once you’ve reached a major goal in life, many people reached out to me saying they’ve experienced something similar. This all has reinforced my belief that I must always be REAL with you (and myself), even when it’s painfully difficult.

So the following is how I got out of my funk. It took conscious effort (as it always does to get anything we want), but I was finally ready to put in that work. And I have to say that within 48 hours I felt like a new women! It doesn’t take long for us to turn it around, we just have to WANT to and be COMMITTED to getting results.

1. I made the decision.

I’d known for about a year that I was suppressing and avoiding a lot of emotions that I figured would some day come back to bite me in the ass, but I consciously chose to put them off. Until the day I wrote that post. That was when I decided that no matter what, I was going to turn this shit around. I would face the emotional things I needed to address, work on processing everything I’d been shoving down, and turn on my hustle to make a change.

You too, will have to get to a place where you make a concrete decision to change. Nothing can happen until you’ve truly reached this point. Rock bottom is great for forcing this issue, as it was for me. So if you haven’t hit it yet, consider yourself lucky! Take action now, because I can assure you from experience, that rock bottom is coming to FORCE the issue if you keep putting it off.

Postpartum of a Dream

Is it possible to have “postpartum” after the birth of your dream? It sounds crazy I know, but I wonder….

Sarah Centrella writer

I say this because for the past three months I have not felt like myself, and this got me thinking… Could I have postpartum depression?

But how could that be?

I’ve just realized one of the biggest dreams of my life, I’ve achieved something most people never get to accomplish, so why am I not euphoric every day? Dancing on a cloud? Why have I spent every weekend (that my kids are away) binge watching Downton Abby, or anything else I could find on Demand? Why have I refused to leave the house, unless I absolutely had to? Why won’t I work out when I know its what makes me feel better? Why can’t I find the energy to get out of my yoga pants? Why do I just want to sleep?

What the fuck is wrong with me? How can this be?

From Future Board to Reality

Have you ever made a “vision board” or a “dream board” but it didn’t seam to work? Or have you always thought they were kinda just bullshit? Or did you make one, but then never actually hang it up where you could see it?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, you’re not alone. I’d say that most of my clients fall into this category, I did myself for most of my life. But then I made a board that was so totally aligned with the women I desired desperately to become, hung it up at my office, and wala! It wasn’t long before I began living out the moments that were displayed on my #FutrueBoard. It wasn’t magic of course, if you’ve read my book #HustleBelieveReceive you know that. It involved a lot of work as it always does, but let me tell you, it sure felt like magic!

Did you know that you can predict your future? If you totally believed that, wouldn’t you want to put that power to good use? It took me years to fully believe it, but once I began to make those connections, and realize that what I spoke about (#SayIT), thought and obsessed over (#ThinkIT) and what I surrounded myself with (#SeeIT) was becoming my reality, I wanted to harness it as fast and as accurately as I could! And that’s how the #HBRMethod came about, though testing it out in my own life and then teaching it to my clients.

Last year I started #HBRBootcamp where I teach the 8-step #HBRMethod in a 10-week small group coaching course, and the results have astounded even me! I’m not sure why I’m always surprised because I KNOW this works.  I’ve proven it over and over again.  But there’s something about teaching it to someone who may be at the lowest point in their life, with little or no resources or hope, then watching them apply it daily…and then WATCHING IT CHANGE THEIR LIFE! That never gets old believe me!

This morning I had the joy of catching up with some of my former #HBRBootcamp clients who took the course a year ago. At that time some were in negative relationships, some didn’t have jobs, some were struggling financially, others were looking for how they could find their purpose and happiness, all were looking for something to help get them “un-stuck.”

One year later those same clients have started their dream business, gotten promotions, found their dream job/calling, left bad relationships, found a new group of positive friends, seen the magic of #MoneyAintAThing, manifested some unbelievable moments and life changing experiences off their #FutureBoars, all in under a year!! But the part I love the most is seeing their self-confidence change. Seeing them learn how to control the negative voices in their head and replace them with positive, empowering ones… and then.. .BECOME that empowered positive person! There is no greater joy that I’ve found in life (outside of being a mom) then this, watching these amazing transformations.

This morning one women said that she’s re-reading the book and re-doing her homework because she’s come so far from a year ago that she needed to upgrade her dreams! And when she got to step 2, #ThinkIT where you write out all your “I am’s” she realized that she needed all new ones, because the ones from a year ago now simply described WHO SHE IS. Think about that for a second. A year ago, when she was at her lowest point she used this tool to teach herself how to think differently about herself and her future. She applied it daily. She told herself over and over again these positive “I am’s” (like ‘I am happy.’ ‘I am successful.’ etc) every time the negative voices tried to sabotage her new life.  And now one year later those words actually describe who she is and how she sees herself! How amazing that is. And it can and will do the same thing for you.

I’ve always believed that proof is better than words, and that’s why I’ve documented my entire journey and all my manifestations, because you can’t argue with facts right!? And pictures are great facts. Here’s just a few things I’ve manifested in the past few years from my #FutureBoard using the #HBRMethod.

You’ll notice that each photo has a picture of my #FutureBoard and the year it was made and next to it a photo of the reality, the moment I lived out those dreams.

This post was originally posted to my website. To view the picture slideshow of what I’ve manifested see link at the end of this post.

Please also note that I’m blogging more regularly on my website, so if you’re looking for anything related to #HustleBelieveReceive the #HBRMethod or success tips, anything like that you’ll want to subscribe to my new HBRBlog
