Oh I’m quite surprised to read that these things happen in the US too. People looking down on you for missing a school event, I mean. It’s quite normal here in Spain, still very much a “traditional” society where Papa works and Mama stays at home and is supposed to attend all her kids’ events, so working single moms are still kinda rare here. But life isn’t doubly difficult for a single mom compared to a happy married and stay-at-home, it’s at least 4 times more difficult!

Yes, don't be so hard on yourself. What's so strange is that kids seem to remember the things we do, not what we don't do. My best guess is that the twins won't even remember in a few years ( or even less ) this whole situation. Sounds like you're doing a great job as a parent!

Don’t be so hard on yourself. There’ll be plenty more graduations when they will see you there. I know the schooling system in the UK is so different from the one in the US but you have to remember, they are only 6 years old.
I know how it feels letting kids down. I’ve failed as a parent. I’m separated almost 4 years now and have 2 daughters aged 10 and 8. In the last 4 years I could count with both hands how many times I’ve seen them. I was constantly letting them down because of work and now they just don’t want to see me any more. Life’s unfair sometimes, but you just gotta grin and bare it, let it go and keep striving forwards. As kids get older they’ll start to remember all the great things they done with mum, the trips they thought they’d never get, all the special things you’ve gave them throughout their childhood. Kids are resilient and always bounce back. They will soon remember all of the things they’ve done with mum and since dad does nothing with them, then they will soon realise what a fantastic person you are. Like I said, stop being so hard on yourself. It’s hard being a parent, especially a single parent.
