I really do believe that failure is the greatest tool for self-discovery; it’s not until you’ve fallen down a couple of times that your true self begins to emerge; that resilient side that refuses to give up, back down, wills itself to survive and presses on. And that for me is the only way to live this life.

A few years ago I made a list of my own for my future husband. I also read the part in the secret where it talked about relationships and I did everything they talked about in th book:i.e. making space for him in your closet; sleeping on one side of the bed etc, etc. I started going out and having fun with friends so that I would be radiating the right happy energy. Four months later I met the one and I knew as soon as I saw him he the man I manifested and wrote about on my list, four years later we are still going strong. The secret definetly works..

Except that we don’t drink, we are Muslim. And I never really thought too much about it until reading your piece, and when my sister once told me I need to be thankful for my husband. But my husband is all these things, so you must know that such men do exist! And I must know that I need to be THANKFUL! I sometimes feel infuriated because he is so stubborn, but this is a part of him that I admire in most cases except when it works against me. There is no one perfect, but there is someone out there perfect for you!

Also, I was going to say, look more than anything at his mother. I almost spent more time scrutinizing my mother-in-law than my husband during our engagement, because I wanted to learn about how he was raised, values, etc. My mother-in-law is educated, kind, gentle, patient, nonjudgmental, thoughtful, sincere, and un-materialistic (and believe it or not has never once criticized me in the ten years I’ve been married). All of this was a huge consideration when I was on the fence about my husband.

All the best, Sarah.
Umm
